more running repairs than actual rebuild

My first ever little 'blog' forgive me if i bore
you to sleep!!

I really wasn't expecting this to be a project, just yet anyway,
i fancied something a bit newer, bigger, less rusty & was assured
it was in daily use & therefor a good runner, reliable...
Sadly we didn't even get 30 miles after picking her up before
the temperature started to creep up, i knew it was one of those
creeps that wasn't going to stop, so i did..

the culprit, tucked right behind the timing cover, cheers for that!
It's taken days to get it off, took it to the local engine supply
shop & they didn't have a clue where i should be looking for
a replacement, if i can't find anything whilst googling over the weekend
i'm going to ride around & harass some local mechanics with it
next week.

the 3 different sized sawn off bolts are from the water pump pulley..

another repair evident

another bolt missing

timing cover in tatters especially where crank pulley is, that would
be the burning smell whilst driving,

my little helper, threatening me after i made her get under & help me
undo the gearbox sump bolts that i'm too fat to reach!

my heart sank lower than ever when i saw something big & metal in the
oil pan,.. & rose when i read it & realised what it was! so that's
what the end of the dipstick 'should' look like, ah ha.

the beast,.

this is the start of a beautiful love hate relationship

ok cool, thanks, be nice to have a new one one day, my partner's
kindly fibreglassed & painted the old one so it looks a bit less
neglected now.

tried out my jacking points today, something i've not done
since i used to own a vw a few years back.... (ccccrrrrrruuuuuuuuunnnnnnnncccchhhh)
& they're sound

got the oil pan back on my gearbox with a nice home made gasket
& a load of squeezy tubey gasket also, & so far there's no leak,
i'll wait until morning at least before i celebrate too much though..

just got to get the old stuff out of my hair & out from under my nails,

i came in with freshly scraped knuckles earlier & had to get on with dinner,.. garlic stings, a lot!
