The 'Nan' blog

Been checking over "Nan" my new beddie over last few days.
As you can see it already has a new driver,my grandaughter Pheobe.
It took over an hour to get her out of it lol.

Main problem is the fact that although it has had the head converted to unleaded, whoever put head back on has not been able to get it running on 4 cylinders, although i dont think it has been driven like that??
so far ihave found that distributer is turned as far as it will go so needs refitting correctly.
Had to clean tank and fuel lines, now runs on 3 but sounds like bag of nails.
I have removed cam cove.(all bolts were finger tight)
Not actually checked valve clearences yet but by feel some are extremely wide while others are closed totally so i suspect that clearences were obvously not checked when head awas replaced whic hopefully is no problem.
But what worries me is that were other things done correctly like torqueing head bolts etc.
starting to wonder if i should take head off and redo it with new gasket etc, cahnge cam belt at same time.

Otherwise it is in reasonable condition, just a couple of bits of welding needed i think.
Front of drivers step, bottoms of door corners, flange around top of cab where seal between cab and camper sits.
Had lots of rain last few days and so far no damp or leaks.

above our step in the centre is a little lip, not sure if original fit or not but ours had a toggle latch clip thingy that hooked onto it when the step is up.
had to be replaced with similar, still not very convincing!

Mind has a bolt latch and a shackle and padlock, neither seem original.

Well, third time lucky, got head etc back on today, runs brilliantly on all 4 cylinders.
No rattles, not even a start up one lol.
Nice and smooth, good oil pressure, charging ok.
Just got to put rad back in tonorrow, get it hot and redo valve clearances.
Took some time and sme newly invented swearwords but got there eventually.
Now runs on unleaded which saves all the addatives messing about.

Went to little kosavo (local boot sale) this morning, think i was only english speaker there lol.
did buy set of air horns, revcounter, decent car alarm for £5.00 the lot.
Got my camper engine running has new unleaded cylinder head so no more addatives.
Removed what seems like 10 mile of old wiring from under dash, most of it was bare wires going nowhere, some of them live!!!
Loads to do still but getting there.

Great news Mike. Took a bit of time but I'm sure it's worth it in the long run. We will be passing by in a couple of weeks time on our way down to Gravesend in Kent but we will be staying on the unrestricted side of the 25

Nothing is restricted for petrol engines Rae,or older diesels till jan 06 2012.

If it aint raining tomorrow i am going to get radiator etc in,then virtually everything else is on the inside out of the weather,so should get done a bit faster.
Loads of wireing in cab to sort still.hopefully on road in not too distant future.
Still got to source some rear lights though.

Good to see she is coming along nicely
Regarding rear lights you are more then welcome to have the ones off of mine, not sure if they are original fitment though.
I have replaced mine with Capri mk3 rear light clusters as they have the rear fogs & reversing lights in one unit.

keep up the good work

Rad installed & bled, air cleaner fitted, evrything else connected etc.
Revcounter connected and working fine.
now starts first turn of key.Temp guage goes to hot after 10 mins but engine definately not boiling, think temp sensor may need replacing.
Are they all the same does anyone know???
So now its fit new mirrors, sort cab wireing properly.
Also got to get hazard switch as old one is damaged.
Also going to fit air horns and alarm/central locking next few days.
