1983 Automatic CF230 Travelhome S - Advice Please Hello all, this is my first post and I need advice regarding the dip-stick for the auto gearbox. My dip-stick has the end broken off so does not reach the oil to give a reading. I have drained the oil and re-filled as per the book but do realise this is not a cure. Does anyone have the same setup they could measure the length of the dip-stick for me? I love my motorhome, my wheelchair fits through the rear door and gives me (almost) full use of what it has to offer. Many thanks for a great site. ColinH | Wed 29 Feb 2012 @ 13:51 |

This is mine from my bedouin. It's for the diesel engine & I have a feeling if you have a petrol engine it may be a different length. ---------------------- | Wed 29 Feb 2012 @ 14:45 |

I'm sure you'll have followed the guidelines but just in case others need to know. Extract from manual; "It is essential that the fluid in the automatic transmission is kept at the correct level otherwise erratic range changing and other malfunctions can occur. Overfilling will cause foaming, resulting in faulty operation and over-heating. Utmost cleanliness when checking the level or topping-up is essential. Check the fluid level whilst the vehicle is on a level surface, with the transmission unit at normal operating temperature, the engine idling and the selector lever in the 'P' position. Also apply the parking brake firmly. The combined fluid filler cap and dipstick is located on the right-hand side of the engine, it is accessible from under the bonnet on gasoline models (see figure 7613) and by removing the engine cover within the driving compartment on diesel models (see figure 7614). Wipe clean the area in the vicinity of the filler orifice before removing the dipstick. Withdraw the dipstick, wipe it clean (use clean paper or non-fluffy cloth), replace the dipstick and then withdraw it again. The level should be between the 'ADD OIL! and 'FULL' mark on the dipstick. As a guide to the amount of fluid required, if the dipstick shows the level at the 'ADD OIL' mark, 0.6 litres (1 pint) of fluid will be required to bring the level to the 'FULL' mark." ---------------------- | Wed 29 Feb 2012 @ 15:00 |

Also, if you dont know where the broken end is- it might be at the bottom of the shaft- berhaps a magnet on the end of a wire or those cunning grasping tools might just find it...if its there at all! ---------------------- | Wed 29 Feb 2012 @ 17:26 |

Hi, and welcome, mine has a petrol engine with an automatic gearbox. my dipstick measurement points as in previous picture are full length - 39 and1/2 inches minimum mark - 38 and 7/8 inches full mark - 38 and 5/8 inches don't forget to measure oil on a level surface in park with engine on and gearbox at working temperature (ie - travel a couple of miles first).
