Hello from London

Hi there, I just thought I'd say 'Hi' as I am hopefully going to be the new owner of a 1986 CF2 SWB panel van with the sliding front doors. This has been bought by a very good mate of mine who was going to transplant the petrol engine into his Dad's older A reg CF (diesel) as we live in the dreaded LEZ. However, despite the van being painted in Goth Matt Black it is actually a very solid beastie and far to good to break in any way, shape of form. I then threatened my mate with a very grim and painful death if he didn't let me have the van. He saw the light.

The van will now be restored to original spec. Not sure of original colour options but the van was once white (not appealing). There was a light blue colour that I used to see but I have no idea what it is called.

The van runs beautifully but needs the slow running jet cleaning out. It also needs a replacement front screen as there are a couple of chips in the wiper sweep area, plus the rubber has perished and it would be better to take the screen out to tackle the little bit of corrosion that is dotted about here and there. Bodywise she is in good nick. The front wheelarches have a bit of surface rust on them as does one rear arch. Nothing major by any means.

I have a couple of Rover 200 seats in the loft (1/2 cloth/leather) which look like they may fit as the originals are somewhat tired to say the least. That's it really. Oh, the horn doesn't work either and it needs a new gear knob

If I could get the carb done and the screen replaced it would most likely pass the MOT. No rush though.

Cheers everyone.

Ken

Welcome to the club Ken.

Another panel van still on the road is worth preserving - not well represented because most were driven to death. Sliding cab doors are a rare item too.

PS

You have pmail.

Cheers

Screen rubbers are the stuff of myth and legend, as are alternative wheels for the CF/2.

When I got my van the windscreen rubber was looking pretty cracked and brittle. I was advised to patch it up with some special marine sealant (the name of which escapes me now but someone will come along and remind me shortly) and I painted that on my rubber building it up with a few thin layers, and I have to say that was two bitter winters ago and its held up perfectly.

Rubbers occasionally come up on ebay. I bought one for £20 last year and it was in pretty good nick. The only trouble is though that often rubbers come up and the seller claims they will fit both CFs and CF2s, and apparently the two are very different, so be careful what you bid for and make triple sure its the right one before ripping your old one out. Mine was the wrong one.

Hmm, not what I needed to hear, although the fix tip sounds good. The problem is that the screen will need replacing at some point.

Keep your eyes peeled on ebay because windscreens also come up fairly regularly. Same thing applies though - make double sure its definitely a CF2 one before you go to the trouble of collecting it. A CF one wont fit.

By the way... Sikaflex is the name of the marine sealant. Its flexible, weather resistant and doesn't contain any nasty chemicals that will further perish your rubber.

Welcome to the club!

We are also in London (well we've moved just outside now to sunny Essex)
And it will be great to at least see another CF on the road

Piccies at last. Now remember, the CF hasn't been used in a couple of years and I just washed off some algae!

Hope you like and can see the potential.

Very tidy; lick of paint & away you go.

Are the mirror arms on brackets bolted to the door frame or bolted to the wings?

Either way the arms + heads for LandRover should fit; same bolt spacing.

Just need the slow running jet cleaned out and a general check over. The matt black is kind of growing on me to be honest, but that current look is just too scruffy and would have to be cleaned up and redone

The mirrors are bolted to the wings. Has anyone got a picture or two of the Landie mirrors on their Beddie for reference?

Thanks

Ken

On CF2 slam doors & using original plastic gaskets for Vitaloni mirrors with bigger attachment footprint -

These were stuck on using studs & nuts -

but this shows match of fixing holes spacing with gasket holes.
