Isle of Wight, running repairs and a big bang!

thought we'd spend the bank holiday pootling about the Isle of Wight in the
Trailblaze - the first propper outing in her since getting her UK plates. Shot off to the ferry on Thursday evening after work. Fitted a new carb Wednesday night, and she is running a bit rough - occasional back fire on part throttle and poor idle, coupled with being hard to start when warm. Made the ferry fine though and made it to our first camp site by night fall.

Home sweet home...

She started nicely the next morning and we pottered off the the Needles. running well on the gas but trying to stall when pulling up hard on the brakes and still the odd splutter. Preferes to idle on choke but pulls better with choke off. Think we must have an air leak somewhere, and more accute on idle.

Next day,we are happily cruising down the coastal road when pop, bang splutter, we roll to a stop. An hour later we are back off, carb stripped and both fuel filters renewed. Bit of black junk in the float bowl was prime suspect, but I thought it better to have the carb apart to clean the jets anyway. she seems to run a bit better now.

BANG!

It was all going so well, when a screw from the dash housing somehow made contact with the wiper switch, and blew the fuse. This must have killed the electronic ignition for a second as she let out one allmight backfire and then soundledlike a tank - oh dear...

Fortunatly Halfords was open on Sunday, and I managed to patch her up with a tub of fire putty and some muffler repair patches. Still a bit of a blow but nothing like it was before!

On the plus side, we also spotted a nice 1971 ice cream van still hard at work in a layby just prior to the explosion.maybe the van just got a bit over excited at seeing a friend???

Anyway, with her patched exhaust the van got us safely home and back to work this morning,so well done vanny!

I can recommend it. It is really small, but with loads of stuff to do and see. Some great hidden little treasures in some of the seaside villages. It's ideal for the Beddy (other than the hills!) as everything is so close, and the traffic rarely gets much above 50 anyway. Some of the smaller roads might be a bit challenging in your coach built mind - they get rather thin when you stray off the main roads. there are loads of camp sites, and we were paying about £15-£18 a night with hook up. Ferry set us back £75 (£25 out and £50 back as it was a busy bank holiday Monday).

Hi
We are booked up to take our caravan over there in the summer we are staying at the Orchards caravan club site where did you stay? We are booked on for 2 weeks but the site we are going to has a lot on it so we will probably spend a lot of time just relaxing.

Orchards was mentioned in a recent guardian article I saw.

Site 1: riverview Park - PO30 5TE. good basic site but no kids allowed. near to the Fishbourn ferry and Ryde.

Site 2: Stoats farm: again, basic but nice location on the west of the Island near freshwater. Interesting collection of rotting caravans on site?

Site 3: Appuldurcombe camping and caravan park - pool and playground for kids, close to small town, and near ventnor - south of Isle.
