Trailblazer Info

Hi there

I just bought a 1980 CF1 'Trailblazer' with a pop top. I can't seem to find much information about this particular conversion - I think it was done by Autohomes.

Does anyone have any more information? Anyone else have one? Does anyone have any photographs (particularly of the interior as I have a feeling it has been replaced at some point).

Many thanks

Aaron

I couldn't find one in the brochure section on the main page but there are some brochures on greedbay. If you do buy one can you upload it to the site?

Most CI conversions are basically the same so if you look at any of the CI brochures you should get an idea.
Sorry forgot to say, welcome to the madhouse.

I also have a Trailblaze. It is indeed a CIM conversion. Mine is a 1976, but will be essentially the same. If you need any info feel free to ask. I don't have a broshure unfortunatly.

Thanks for that Phil - the interior does differ immensely from mine. Would be good to see some more at some point!

I don't pick mine up until the weekend, so will more than likely have more questions then. It's good to know there are others out there!

All the best

Hi,

we've got a number of Trailblazers in the French club, all with the same interior layout as Phil's van. If you want any photos, just ask.

Brilliant - thanks Robin, that's very good of you.

Any interior shots would be brilliant. As I said - I am collecting the van at the weekend, do may well have some more specific questions after that.

All the very best.

Hi all

Thanks again for all the help. I have bought the Trailblazer brochure in a fit of impulse buying (don't tell the wife) and will upload scans once it arrives.

Very happy with the layout of the van - although the inerior looks nothing like tHe pictures uploaded here. It has obviously been painted up and most likely had all the doors replaced.

I can't seem to get the fridge to start on gas even though the guy who sold it to me swears blind it was working. Not sure if anyone has any tips??

Many thanks

Gas fridge can be a bitch to light. remove the fridge and make sure the burner is free from general dust and crap. Depending on the fridge you have there are a number of ways of getting them lit. You will either have to hold down the gas control knob or a separate knob whilst you get it lit, and then for a few more seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat up (this ensures the flame doesn't go out once you let go of the knob). The fridge only uses a tiny amount of gas, so it is useful to light a hob for 10 seconds to pull some gas through the system prior to lighting the fridge. Let the gas leak out for 5 seconds or so from the fridge prior to using the ignitor. mine takes quite a few attempts to get it going, but once lit is fine. If it will light but dies when you release the knob then you need a new thermocouple. These can be bought cheap from ebay and adapted.

Also, get a CO detector if you intend on using the fridge on gas!

I will be over in Bath this weekend if you fancy motoring over, I can take a look if you are still struggling. Will be in my Bedouin (the blue one in my avatar), but happy to give your Trailblazer a look over.would be nice to meet a fellow owner.

Hi Phil - that's really good of you!

I'm a little concerned about taking the van as far as Bath with the current overheating problem still an issue. I've got it booked in to yet another garage tomorrow for them to try and ascertain the problem!

Where exactly will you be in Bath? Could you give me your number?

Many thanks

Hi all trailblazers!

Still can't get the fridge to work - does make a bit of a 'whoof' sound when I first press the igniter, but can't see any flame (or spark for that matter).

Also - my roof has locked shut at one end (the rear) and I can't seem to get my hand in the gap to get to the catch (is it push or pull?). It is also a real bugger to lift up and down (takes two people) so I think I may need to replace the gas struts - any idea of where I can get these? Are they a standard size or bespoke?

Lastly - two of my three interior fluoro lights (near side front and off side rear) have suddenly and inexplicably stopped working - is there a fuse somewhere that would cover this?

Sorry for all the questions!!!

Any responses gratefully received!

Hi Paul there is a Fuse but it will stop all your interior light will stop working. use a spare 12v side light bulb and holder with wires attached and see if there is power to the fluoro. is yes then it will be the tube, if no you will have to trace the wire and find a break.
My fridge when lit you can not see the flame but can feel the heat at the backe. hope this helps.

Thanks for that Rich.

I have sorted the lights - there was an earth wire loose somewhere entirely different and seemed to sort the problem!

I am still struggling with raising the roof. It's a catch at the rear that's extremely difficult to get to and I am assuming you are supposed to push it in to release the catch, but I can't seem to make it unlatch!

Fridge is still a mystery - am just persevering. As I said - it makes a 'whoof' sound, but now I've broken the control knob with all my fiddling! Any idea where I can find a replacement?

All the best

Aaron

Sorry I didn't get in touch about the other weekend. Had a rather hectic weekend and forgot all about it!

On my van,you undo the rear catch for the roof inside the van -there is a pull handle that releases the catch, and then I use my head to simultaneously push the roof up a bit so it doesn't re-latch when you let go. i will take a photo tonight and post it.

No worries Phil. I actually managed to get it to unlatch eventually by pulling the catch, but I would be interested in seeing a photo - also, it doesn't automatically reattach when you close it - seems quite erratic.
Also, it takes two people to push the thing up - I assuming its the gas struts. Any idea where I could find replacements?

Many thanks

You can see the catch here, above the two hammock hooks. The are TWO matching ones for the front edge.

My roof is also very stiff. I think a good dose of oil around the hinges might help. To get it to latch properly, I actually go outside the van and give it a good tap on the top, front and back after folding it down..

Wow. Thanks Phil!

Mine looks very different to this as tha catch is buried inside underneath the flap that folds in. How do I upload pictures and I'll show you!

Best

You need to upload pictures to a website such a photobucket. Its free and easy

http://www.photobucket.com

Once they are up loaded, you can view them in your new album. As you hover your mouse pointer over a picture, a box will come up with various addresses you can embed into sites like CFUK. Look for the one that is something like:
[IMG]your_file_name_here[IMG}

copy the text and then paste it into your post on here. when you add or preview your post, you will (hopefully) see your picture. The benefit is that the CFUK server doesn't then have to store loads of large picture files,as they are accessed through Photobucket.
