Starter Motor Hello everyone again,I was looking in the 'Bodge it with Bradshaw' section and noticed Phil was showing us how to maintain/recondition/overhaul the starter motor. My starter on my 2.0L petrol CF"2has just gone on my van and I hope to overhaul mine. What I want to know is does anyone know where I can get spares that I may need to do the job. ---------------------- | Sat 15 Sep 2012 @ 11:11 |

These people were very helpful in identifying and supplying the bits I needed for that job. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/jcrsuppliesautoelectricalparts I'd recommend taking the starter off and having a look inside before deciding which bits you need. Depending on what the issue is you might end up with a new starter anyway. Don't forget to check the state of the earth lead and clean the contact point to the chassis. Soldering on new brushes requires a very heavy duty iron, preferably a gas one. good luck Tony | Sun 16 Sep 2012 @ 14:14 |

Thanks Tony, I'll give them a call tomorrow. My starter has been going down hill for a while i.e it sounds as though the battery is dying even dead but in fact the battery is a brand new (tested) Bosch Silver.I have tried the battery from our car (exactly same as camper)and although it fires our 2.0l Puegeot over at a million rpm it barely turns the Bedford over and the Bedford battery turns the Peugeot over at a million rpm (exaggerating!) so from this Ive deduced that its the starter that must be just about kaput. I'm going to test the relevant parts following the 'Bodge it with Bradshaw'post. If all else fails I'll have to get another starter. Thanks ---------------------- | Sun 16 Sep 2012 @ 18:09 |

Hi all, And thanks once again to Tony. Your man from Walthamstow put me in touch with a supplier and I managed to get the parts for the Delco-Remy starter ...bushes,brushes and complete solenoid cap from Wood Autos Huddersfield. Ive replaced the worn top bush and brushes and solenoid cap following the 'How To' guide by Phil and the starter works a treat again. Some of the re-assembly is quite tricky but well worth the effort as a reconditioned unit can cost as much as £130. Got all the parts for less than £10. You need a decent soldering iron and some sockets and spanners to complete the job. And very satisfying it is too knowing all the worn parts (and they were worn!) have been renewed. Thanks Phil for your expertise. ---------------------- | Wed 19 Sep 2012 @ 12:20 |

Unfortunately, when Phil left the site he basically took most of his bits with him. Not sure whether you can find anything suitable here. ---------------------- | Sat 23 Nov 2013 @ 15:37 |
