brakes on cf 1981 motorhome

Hi everyone I have a cf motorholme which was built just when they changed over cf 250 with round wings to the cf2 with square wings mine is the square wings but I have drum brakes on the front instead of discs I know you can buy a conversion at a price but I wondered if there is another vehicle that I could source the parts from a breakers that would fit?

Front brakes.

Hi Bedford241,

I have the same model with the same brake setup and once set up and adjusted correctly these brakes are very effective and last a lot longer than disc's and pads.
But you can pick up the parts to change them over, best way to do that is to changeover the whole front crossmember and if you go to Bedford part on ebay there is a whole crossmember on there for sale.
There are differances in the hubs and wheel studs brake pipes and flexi hoses, that is why it is easier to change the whole crossmember in one piece.

Doug.

Hi and welcome to the site.

As Doug says it's easier to find a complete CF2 setup and swap it all over. What you have isn't a CF2. It's a CF1 facelift. The facelift model was introduced at the end of 1980 and kept the same range of engines as the CF1. The CF2 came out in 1984. The facelift and CF2 models look the same. So for a CF2 disc brake setup you'll need to find a post 1984 CF 230, 250 or 280. The 350 kept the drums on the front.
