how to fit an overdrive? hi i recently bought a 1982 2.3 petrol cf250 motorhome with 4 speed box which pulls very well but could definatly do with an overdrive gear for cruising at anything above 5o - 55 . i have read that these were available with the laycock j type overdrive from the factory but as the gearbox and overdrive units are fairly rare and seem to sell for more than i paid for the van i wondered if anyone knows how to fit a j type overdrive to a the 4 speed box, ie-does a face plate/ mating surface need to be made? - which jtype overdrive box is needed? just wondered if anyones tried it? thanks oli ---------------------- | Fri 19 Apr 2013 @ 14:24 |

To fit the J type overdrive to your existing box is a lot of work. and some of the parts are not that easy to get hold of. You would be better off finding an overdrive box and bit the cost though......remember you will need a different propshaft as well. | Fri 19 Apr 2013 @ 23:23 |
