which engine oil ?

Need to service the camper and was wondering which oil to feed the big girl she's got a Perkins 4 108 in her

Shall I use mineral , synthetic or part synthetic

Is tescos diesel mineral oil 15/40 any good ?

Any advice greatly appreciated

I was told a while back to always use mineral oil rather than synthetic as that had an adverse effect on seals etc.
Haven't looked in detail but it might tell you in here.

Looks like the Perkins manual was published in 1978 and oils have changed a lot in the meantime.

I had an old Volvo (V6 Petrol) that had always run on semi sympathetic oil and when I sold it at 250k miles it still didn't need topping up between annual servicing!

Didn't leak unduly either . . . . .

We used to run the Compressors in the Tugs on fully sympathetic oil and they were in perfect nick after 12 or more years running.

Regards,

Pete.

10/40 semi synthetic is ok to use in the Beddy. it wont harm any seals and will aid starting .

The service went a treat put 300 miles on it this weekend and the last 150 she was laden with stuff from my mums (she didn't miss a beat ) 60 mph on flat road but that drops considerably going up hill.
