How can I identify the type of starter motor

My 1973 Bedford CF has started making a brief grinding noise immediately after the ignition catches. I think I may need to replace the starter motor. Sounds simple enough, but there seem to have been at least 6 types of starter motor used on Bedford CFs. How can I identify which one is the one I need? I have tried looking on the starter motor, but can't see any easily identifiable marks other than LUCAS and some faint numbers underneath. Hope someone can help.
Thanks
Ian

Which engine do you have fitted?
If you can stick a photo up it would be easier to help in identifying it.
