Engine rattle

Hi all,when I crouse at 50 mph the engine seems to rattle.When take power on or off It goes.Is this a noiesy oil pump?Or are there any other ideas.Thanks for your time.Cheers+Beers,Jim.

I would be inclined to get an oil pressure guage and check the oil pressure.

Could be big end bearings.

It is very difficult to advise on noises with out actually witnessing the concern but I agree the oil pressure should be checked. If it was a tappet issue I would expect the rattle to be constant while engine is running. A big end knock would typically either be constant or more noticable when "blipping" the throttle and not on ever run.

What engine are you runing? Could it be a flapping timing belt or chain?

engine rattle

Hi all,as I tried to explain the rattle only comes on when the van is croused.It does not matter what the speed is,when I back off from exceleration to crouse it will rattle.This is why I think it's the oil pump.I have renewed the Crank bearings and run them in.The engine is a 2300 VX slopper.Cheers+Beers,Jim.
