ive been thinking ...[ dont laugh ] on my beddie i have a blydenstein head and apparently thats a GOOD thing but i can only go at 55mph top with out fuel disappearing like well quick lol and she hates hills [ i know most beddies do ] well i was wondering if it would be better to get a new head ect fitted so basically taking back to normal ........ideas on a thread please .

ps i have a strange water cooler thinginy attached to the said head that i can switch on ???? it did cool the engine a LITTLE last summer but is that normal on a head ..

Bill Blydenstein was the go to guy for Vauxhall tuning from the 70's onward and part of the DTV set up which took on the Ford AVO in the 70's and 80,s. His cylinder heads are highly regarded for delivering torgue through the rev range but in conjunction with fuel delivery and exhaust changes depending on the spec. If you have a stage 3 head which is fully gas flowed with big valves and everything else is stock then its wasted as it needs injection and exhaust upgrades to give its full potential. There were lesser versions, stage1 was a gas flowed cleaned up head for road use and stage2 was the clubman version for weekend rallyists. Blydenstein also altered the camshaft and ignition set ups.
Bill Blydenstein died a few years back but I think Blydenstein Engineering may still be going. There were various publications on Vauxhall tuning as you really need to find what spec head you have fitted. Then you have to decide if the cost to benefit of any work will be acceptable to you.
Happy Googling... Andy

thanks for reply old son ill look at paper work.........
ok so it looks like we had new engine fitted in 96 and then old billy seems to have put a B+PACK HD MODS which cost £459 back then lol [ the engine chage back then was £625 lol wow ] ...ive got ever piece of paper for every single thing EVER done since the van left the show room in redruth cornwall 33 years ago lol.
think i might find a good vauxhall dealer and take her there to get a GOOD tune up ..our exhaust is 4 branch one as well and the spark plugs are not normal beddie ones lol....

i love my van its just not normal lol

Hey Guy, I'm sorry I don't have any advice to help it running, but I'm currently looking for a Blydenstein head for my van as I'd like to mod it in a few ways, starting with this! If you ever decide to sell it I'd happily work something out with you.

Thanks, Nick

What Carburettor(s) have you got on the CF? I'd have thought you have twin carbs if you have a modified head and even a 4 branch exhaust manifold.
That would explain the higher fuel consumption, but in return should also have a bit more poke in the engine too.
We'll have to compare the two and see which is faster.
P.s. if it's too slow, your wife has put too many wifey things in it like cushions and candles

The only way you can sort out your speed and MPG is to change the rear diff for a better ratio .

depending on which axle you have it can be either simple or difficult

fitting a twin carb afterwards will be beneficial but whilst you will get the economy with the first part of the carb the second will gobble fuel like no tomorrow.
