Help transporting a CF AutoSleeper

Hi Guys,

new to this forum and hope I am posting this in the right area. I have fallen in love with the old Bedford CF AutoSleepers. I am off to view a members camper tomorrow that has been off the road for a very long time.

Before I can commit to buying it I need to find someone who can move it for me? Is there anyone in the club that has the ability to tow a camper of this size or knows a good reliable company?

Best Regards
Andy

Hi Andy & welcome.
Where are you wanting to transport from?Presumably to Ross. There are various companies that advertise on greedbay.
There is also http://www.shiply.com.I've read a story recently though that they are a bugger to get a deposit back from if the deal falls through.I believe there's a way to do it so that you don't pay a deposit (their word for the fee)but, having never used the site,I can't say whether that's possible.

Hi Bluebedouin,

Thank you for the warm welcome. The forum looks fantastic and I really look forward to being able to contribute when I get my own Bedford.

Thank you for the ideas! I have put a quote request in for the 'shiply' site and will see who i can find on geedbay haha.

Yeah it needs to go from Westbury area to Ross (about 80miles total)

I see you've had one quote so far of £461.
Have you considered a self drive transporter & do it yourself?I'm sure it would be less than that.

haha how did you manage to see that?

Yeah I almost fell of my chair when I got that quote!

Ah well this is the next problem, im only 27 so I am capped at this silly 3.5t limit! I used to have a recovery truck (LDV) and there is no way this would go on the back of a 3.5t recovery beavertail.

Hello. Welcome to the forum. That's built on a cf250 base vehicle, Could you hire a 4 wheel car trailer locally and find someone with a decent towing vehicle or hire an L200 or Ranger. Whats the chances of getting the cf driving safely and then booking it in for an mot near where you live.As long as you are insured and stay directly on route to or from a testing station. Might want to check with the Dvla but they told me a couple of years ago there was no distance limitation to your chosen test centre.

Hi Andy,

Thank you for the warm welcome. Such a nice forum to be part of!

Sadly I dont know anyone with a Range Rover or seriously heavy tow car. Hmm My dad has a new A8?! Wonder if that has a high tow limit.

Does the CF250 mean something to do with the weight? I always thought it was wheelbase size?

Sadly I wont be able to get it MOT ready that fast. It has head gasket issue, all breaks need work, lights havent been checked etc. Its been off the road for about 12 years.

Ah the Audi can only tow 2.3t. Never mind.

Graham has been incredibly helpful and has managed to find a company local to me that will move it for a very reasonable rate so I will use them. I have just got off the phone with them and now just waiting for available dates :) very excited!
