just bought a cf250 2.3 petrol '76 in ok condition

;] we wasn't sure what to buy, but was jelous of our two mates 4 year old calypso autohomes thingy for 19 grand plus- a frightening price to us old boys! so researched for a couple of weeks wondering how the hell is it that motorhomes are such a rich mans avenue- we found this cf advertised today and the pic was fine priced at 1500 in ok nick except leak to water heater and needs a new water tank. so a quick spin and 1300 quid later it's mine!!! and we trail alongside the calypso to kent this weekend for it's first trial with us old pair. no power steering but that seemed unimportant over 5 mph. it's 'f' ing cute! it has a character that the new vans don't and even the interior was homely, warm feeling. all the same facilities and a solid wood divider to the 4 berth rather than a curtain- we think we will be happy with this and can't wait till friday evening even without hot water.

croeso Catfordcelt.
welcome to the "bedheads"

whats wrong with the original water heater, a kettle.
we've managed with one for 6 years 400 + nights and only about 10 of them on a campsite [without a hook up].
that's the problem with the 19k versions. they need curlers and hair dryers [and that's just for the fellas] and microwave sockets.
enjoy your van catford and hopefully we'll meet up at a future bedhead meet. shame you can't make the one this weekend.

in the meantime if you do a search on water heaters you will find problems have been discussed so that might help you or you could post a question in cf questions if you don't get an answer from what we've covered.

I think I've also got something from Nick {stoton - diolch yn fawr- thanks Nick] to put in a club mag on water heaters.
back issues are available and you can become a card carrying member too [sysop announcements] which gets you access to extra areas of the site.

we are in planning for our traditional easter 07 meet in the new forest so hopefully will see you there if not before.

you can also locate your self and put details on our map in general chat.
enjoy
and you are right beddys [and their owners] just have more character

:D

new and .... very, very green

[baa] so in my five births(sleeping)- where do they sit?
is it illegal to sit in the coach while driving- i have
no rear seatbelts and side facing seats?
i'm sure you cant just sit thereand at least must have a single
static fitting belt or summat?
p.s. i have give it a wash, febreeze, put in me own cushions and photos of our parents. drove it a few miles- it's bleeding smart for an old jallopy. this is my last starting question. i am now a bedhead

Try the search facility (top right) and enter `seat belts` for some good info. and welcome from the Irish part of the site.

as far as I can work out it is only illegal if they are / were fitted.
and also it is illegal to have the front passenger seat vacant with an unused seat belt and passengers in the back.
and from the new rules you should put a child in the front in preference to an adult

and i don't [personal view] think a side seat is safe with a seat belt.
the sideways force would do a lot of damage. if I was going to fit belts in the back they would have to be full harness 4 point type. i don't even like the ones in the front. they can do a lot of damage to a body in a front shunt.
unfortunately they are a must.

Fed up for a while. But...

Just been a bit upset at the ignition breakdown and the Haynes manual reccommending a 6 volt coil when it is always a 12 volt. My bro' works to many hours so I didn't get a quick fix plus my beddie appears to be a cf1 2.3 but has a cf2 ignition system and loom. But my bro' is good and when I got back from Africa last night- I find I've got an all singing and dancing ignition again. Plus swivel hi back captains chair like upfront(from a cf2 but originally from ??)to get the full potential from the chairs I may need my saw and make it 4 berth- and then maybe that gives some inches elsewhere to maybe rebuild a bit so as the shower and toilet area is a bit bigger even separate and a bit more posher than the current little space... I am talking months of a little tweak here and there rayher than refurbishment as I really do believe I have bought a comfortable, homely old girl in my beddie... and a bit of history too. I have a 70 litre replacement water tank from John Cross and my bro' will fit this soon and then test the heater leaks and braize it up for me so by summer i will have a fully functioning van of 30 years old that with ingenuity can achieve the same as a new van like my mates fiat ducato swift calypso thingy.. i mean my old laptop has a freeview dongle and cd/dvd. Also the law allows those fm transmitters now in the uk so I can pipe all my music sounds to any radio blah, blah... My beddie may not be modern, compact and bijou. But it can do everything the modern ones can with a bit of extra fiddling about. I'm loving it again after a hateful November/December..
