introduction

Story of a CF virgin.

I bought a Bedford CF 250 campervan in june 2007.
Betsey as I call her was born in September 1977. She just had her 30th birthday.
She had been parked on a main road and had been vandalised and bits had been stolen. She was in a sorry state. Flat tyres, engine miss firing. I brought her home to my quiet drive and began the restoration process in June 2007.

I was lucky enough to find a mechanic who is fed up working on modern engines, he was quick to search the depths of his cupboard for his timing gun. A new coil, new points and new rota arm did the trick. New rocker head gasket, (home made of course,) and an Oil change had her purring like a kitten. Brake system and tyre overhall has her on the road.

I also found a mechanic who served his time on Glasgow Ice cream vans (all Bedford CF) and he has a set of Bedford tools in his attic. The special tool to reset the tappets came in handy. Only 1 tappet was out.
He also has welding equipment and is currently welding the cab floor.
He tells me that they were originally designed as V8 diesel engines hence the angle, they are half a V8 the rota arm assembly sits where the turbo used to be.
The oil pressure light is on permanently but a nick in the cable is suspected. The thermostat has been removed in the past so its running cold also the petrol tank leaks but I have a new one to fit when the tank is empty. Also the electrics are a bit scary.

There is Lots to do, once I have Betsey road worthy which will be very soon, I will paint the outside and start on the inside. The Kids love her 2 daughters 10 and 9l and enjoyed the one and only weekend away in july. Wife is yet to be convinced. She does not share my enthusiasm.

Betsy is a project for the next few years. I am really looking forward to next summers trips away.

croeso to the bedheads
sounds like a love affair already and the wife is jealous
mine loves going away in ours and if you get her involved with us the ladies here will soon get her interest. aunty sylv will take her under her wing and she'll have a great time a the meets.
hopefully, with so many new members up in Scotland, meets up there will start to happen.
so far BigMac and I meet up for Dunoon every year and we'd love other scots members [and from anywhere else] to join us
as the BG is possibly not happening again there's no excuse now....
now don't forget to become a card member as this will save money on the spares and insurance

Welcome aboard Dave and yet another Betsy.

We are fairly new around here ourselves, but we have been made to feel very welcome already.

There is a wealth of information and advice in the club, so if you don't find answers to your questions using the search facility, don't be afraid to ask.

Welcome to the board Daverev :)
You sound like you're going to make it happen!
My wife is not convinced either, and I despise her little VW, but we still get along OK.
