stumped with belt problem

took it out for a run again tonight.
got me to tamworth from derby fine. had charged batteries up full to ease the work for the alternator, however, even before setting off to get bsack, i noticed a drop in voltage. belts appeared ok.

got halfway home, noticed a big drop in power. lights dimmed, so did the dash. voltmeter showed it at less than 11v. stopped at services and needless to say - it gave up.

one of the belts had now gone, and the other one was badly worn and i could wipe the molten rubber off it!

question is - whys this continuously happening? i've re-adjusted the alt wheel so they all line up, it seems the van is drawing too much power than it can handle. grrrrrr!

drawing to much power would not melt your belts though.

probably its 1 or more of the pulleys are seizing up or out of line.

take the belts off and see if you can spin all the pulleys you have there.
i:e water pump/alternator/power-steering they should all spin freely if not then replace any that are stiff
