New cf...a good summer ahead!!!

Hi guys n girls...I just bought this on ebay...

for me it is a bargain! I was looking at a vw bay window...but a good one is 6000+ so this was a bargain!
Were going to spend a few weekends tarting it up and turning into a surf wagon for the summer...I can see allot of people wanting to come along for the ride!
I have a few questions....
-Whats a good set of aftermarket deep dish steel wheels like you see on day vans
-Where can i get a replacement roof gutter? I'm a dab hand at welding (Im an enginee) so i just need to know a good supplier
-What MPG can i expect from this thing?
-How reliable should i expect this to be...?

to answer your questions
reliability depends on how you look after her. i find mine pretty reliable.
fuel well that varies.
anything from 13mpg to 35mpg depending on engine, gearbox, rear diff and tyre /wheel size.
aim for 20mpg and look for an overdrive unit and an LPG system.
the system can be got with a discount for card holding members.
the gearbox are rare. one on ebay for 200 at the mo.

Welcome to the site yogiontour.

The gutters can be removed alltogether and the roof welded to the sides, if you are skilled enough. Or you can just grind off the vertical edge, if that will solve your problem.
Removing the gutter from the front has the advantage that water doesnt collect in it, and then all surge to one side on your first corner of the morning, thereby creating a cascade that runs down the front of the side window; some of which always finds its way inside.
This doesn't seem to be done much in the UK, but is not an uncommon practice in Australia. (see B.U.G.A. in the links)

The CF stud pattern is fairly unique, and finding alloy wheels to fit seems to be a problem in the UK. Adapters can be made if you are that keen, but I never hear them mentioned on this board so maybe they are not legal there? Or some wheels can be redrilled to fit.

Reliability and Bedford are not habitually used in the same breath, but if you are able to bring her up to condition, and keep her mantained, you should get a good run.

These are thirty year old classics. They have a simplicity and character not found in modern vehicles, but economy and reliability have come a long way since then.

Have a look at the history section (second page?) and at the bottom you are invited to click on a link to view some brochures. You will find your Autosleeper in original condition (with fridge for the cannies!) Good luck with it.
