UMY 973 M

Hi, I have just joined up, nice to know that there's such a following for Bedfords!
First a confession, I don't actually own a CF at the moment (got a Transit, nice vans but no character!), however I did grow up with them, and that's my reason for posting here.
I wondered if anyone knows the whereabouts (or even owns) one of my dad's old vans, UMY 973 M. He owned it for about 20 years, and it played a big part in my life when I was growing up. It was his everyday transport for the whole of that time, and holds many memories. It was the first thing I ever drove (round a disused airfield as a kid, under Dad's supervision of course), and also the first thing I ever worked on (Dad teaching me as he worked on her). Most family holidays were also spent camping in her.
When she was sold around 2004/5 she was painted grey with a Dormobile raising roof (the rest of the camper conversion was home built) and a Perkins 4.108 diesel and overdrive 'box. I would dearly love to know if she's still around. She was sold to someone near Chelmsford, but we've long since forgoten his name. A DVLA check shows that she was last taxed in 2005, so I'm hoping she hasn't been scrapped. Anyone know her?

Vehicle details could not be found for UMY 973 M

As it has not been possible to locate the vehicle details, your enquiry cannot proceed and has been cancelled.

This is off the DVLA site.

So unless someone is restoring her she could be scraped.

When I last checked that site the details were up there, but the last tax disc ran out on 01/10/05. It's more than likely that she has been scrapped, especially with the price of scrap being what it has recently, but I thought I'd ask in case she's still sitting in a garden somewhere...
Thanks for checking.

Still listed on http://cardatachecks.co.uk/ but doesn't show any details of last taxation - you have to pay for that info.

Thanks Allan. I'd already checked that site but obviously there's no owner contact details up there, so the only way I could think of to find out if she still exists is if someone from here recognises her.

Sadly, in these oversensitive times, it is almost impossible to get any personal details, even for the most innocent of reasons.
Good luck, and hope somebody can help other than this.
