Hi everyone thought its about time i introduced myself )

Hi everyone thought its about time i introduced myself.
I am mike now 36 years old and have been medically retired some years ago due to spinal injury.I was with REME for some years and spent many years at college ontop.I have fairly good knowledge n can normally solve most problems ,not perfect and still learning from any mistakes i make lol.Have found this site great the few times i have been on it and now i will frequent it more as im back to a single life and have time to myself to work on my lovely 1972 CI bedoiun coach built motorhome.. seems its one of a kind as cant find anything like it so far on my search's of the internet..
When i got hold of it a couple of years back it was in an awful state engine wise and body wise but i thought i would take it on as i have always loved vauxhalls so bedford seemed a fine way to go motorhome wise.I did a bit of work on it to get it water tight or so i thought lol,, have learnt from them mistakes as well.. now im in the process of rebuilding the woodwork inside and thoroughly enjoying the task at the moment due to having much time to myself again lol.My kids love the motorhome and have called it bertha and they always ask if they can sit in her or go out in her.She has taken 8 of us plus luggage to gatwick and back n was reliable except that i lost rear lights on the way up there in the dark but luckily i sussed the problem out to being a short on the rear fog light and fixed that in a few mins..she has also taken my kids and me and my mum to butlins and she did not faulter once and managed to clock her at 70mph which my kids found highly hilarious because she made it that fast abd they enjoyed waving out of her at people and getting waves back.. so i have alot of love for my motorhome and hope i never have to get rid of her but if i did i would buy another bigger one :)
enough waffle from me catch you all about the forums.

mike

Hi Mike, welcome to the beddies site. If you can make it to Gatwick you can try and make it to Puddletown for our Easter Meet, which is being hosted by Graham and Debbie this year. I am sure you will receive a big welcome and meet some of the others who post on here. Regards David.

Thanks for the welcomes , much appreciated...
When is the meet at puddletown? hopefully i will have got my drivers door mirror arm by then.

Good to see other bedouins are still going..Only thing is mine is totally different to any picture i have seen so far.. the bottom section is exactly the same. i have extended chassis and the top section of mine is much taller and not round fronted.. i will try n get some pics up.. how do i post them on here??

My insurance company looked into it when someone hit my back end and say its a prototype for larger coachbuilt van.. n as i say i cant argue as i do know some people who used to work for ci and autohomes. and they are saying the same that it was a prototype of a model that just didnt sell .. if you look the ones simular in size and height to mine are not until 1977 to 1978 and they have flat roofs where as mine is stepped with a veranda on the back.
When i get pics any comments on it would be greatly appreciated as all i know is that it is a CI-M bedouin and registered in april 1972 and would go along the lines of prototype model as the caravan/motorhome shows start from april to july.

Thanks again for the warm welcome and i look forward to keeping in touch with CF owners and even more so fellow bedouin owners

I know the feeling about the buying one drunk.. i wasnt drunk but the ebay pic did not show up all the problems... nearly walked away but in the end got it and then found out it couldnt do more than 40mph all the way home from essex to poole.. took ages lol.. Then i fixed the engine problems and did a few minor repairs to make it water tight or so i thought.. now i am rebuilding it from front to back replacing rotten wood etc and re-making the internals.
I must admit it is good to own a vehicle thats the same age as me hehe.. Has been a learning curve n personally i wouldnt want to get rid of her unless finances say i need to ..
Catch you all soon.

Hi Madmike, nice to have another Bedford nut nearby.

The Puddletown meet is the Easter weekend, full details are in the Rallies section. If you can not make the whole weekend then you may be able to pop along for a few hours and meet some of the crowd.....

Thanks for that Gethin :)

Thats what i thought originally untill i spoke to some people who used to work for ci and autohomes .. as they said about prototypes.. then insurance saying the same.. still not certain much but interested in comments of any kind.
If it was a prototype it was ahead of its time if not its some kind of add on but not sure quite how or by whoom. or maybe it was a one off order..

got more leaks now somewhere on roof section between cupboards and cab area... gonna have to get up there n have a look when it stops peeing down with rain.. if not i had better take down some roof section boarding and see if i can spot where its coming in as its down left side by window and above it.. and then in right side on corner of top bed and the main area.. bugger.. oh well all fun of owning an old vehicle.. if i can find the leak im sure i can figure out how to stop it and get on with it once its stops raining to allow geo seal to cure and permanently stop the leaks.. at least i have stopped the front section leaks which were quite a few on window frame and rubber window seal and corner screws.. all fun of the time eh :)

You will find that the water is getting in where the 2 roof sections meet.
