Hi i'm new here

Hi we are Chris & Angela. Just bought a 1983 cf250 last week. first camper ever. We do markets and steam rallies and thought a camper would be ideal. need some pointers though, a copy of manual would be helpful to know what switches and knobs do what, as the previous ownr hadn't used it after buying it and didn't know much about it. any advice would be much appreciated. C & A

If you mean switches that aren't factory fit (lights, wipers etc., marked accordingly with symbols) then it's a process of elimination using a meter to determine which additional switch operates, e.g., internal lighting.

SWITCHES

Thanks Phil, its things like- when the headlight are turned on, theres a constant beeping noise, other 2 switches by the headlight switch have no symbol left on them, when i turn the water tap on the pump is running but no water coming out, tank is full. whats the gas tank underneath at the back for? just the usual newbie questions.

Beeping noise could be a 'lights on' warning relay that has been added & may be faulty, or just badly wired.

Round button switch lower left of the lights switch is a 2-position rotary type for the heater blower; choke control (or cold start switch on facelift diesel models) is next to it. Any other switches to the left of the lights switch - I've no idea.

I don't know much about the different types of water pumps used for campers but I'd guess at the pump either needing priming with not being used for a while or having an inlet screen that's choked or blocked. CF-UK experts on waterworks probably will out you right.

Gas tank under the back end sounds like the van has been converted to run on LPG. This will need a change-over switch to run on petrol or LPG.

Hi and welcome to the puzzling world of the CF and I hope you have lots of fun! Our water pump does exactly the same as yours and we fix it by sucking at the tap as it is proabably an air lock which is stopping the water coming out. We only use the water from the tank for washing and not drinking and I have added lots of milton/sterilising tabs to the tank. Turn the tap on to hear the pump working, suck on the tap to force the air up and it should start to slutter out. (Spit out the water from your mouth!)

Yuk.
At least with the old hand pumps all they needed was a finger over the end as the pump sprang back up from being depressed; this would suck water up into the valve & make it work. And a pile of green through to black gunge would come out first if the van had stood for a while....

This should give you an idea of the various switches,

Gethin has a copy of the manual available on cd which he will sell you at a very reasonable price!(That's where the pic came from)
If like Phil said the beeping is from a lights on warning system,it's likely to be operated by a door switch.Have a look in the door to see if it's earthing.

If you come to any of the Northants steam rallies,(Holcot,Hollowell,Earls barton etc)give me a shout & I'll put the kettle on.;]
