Question - yes, me again

On a TL what is the purpose of the small silver cylinder just next to the elbow joint into the outer air cylinder? Latterly the one on ours is leaking air whenever we get to decent pressure. Does this mean that it is just a safety release valve, in which case why didn't it do it before? Brakes seem to work fine but power steering takes time to kick in.

Hi
Mine does not have one as far as I can remember. Im not with it right now but as I painted around it not that long ago I can say with some certainty that there isnt one on mine! It may be an air filter/water trap. Have you got a picture? Maybe one of our experts would know? Anybody care to guess?

If it were a pressure relief valve it should blow and stop, not weep.
Is your truck an AWD or Bedford?

Might be a test point; governor valve on some models isn't that small.

Been on holiday to Cornwall with two horses (and husband of course) in Bessie, went like a dream - and came back. The small cylinder was dismantled by helpful brother in law of best friend. Turns out to be one way valve with diaphragm b----red. He took it out altogether. No problems except that now the red hand on the clock takes FOR EVER to come up while the main air hand goes up much more quickly. She's due for plating 29th July and they won't accept that. Once she's running she's at 8 for main and 9 for back-up but in traffic red hand drops v quickly. Any suggestions? I promise I will stop asking questions, just it won't be today. Brakes work fine and air assisted steering works from the off again instead of taking half an hour to kick in.

I am sorry but when it comes to brakes I use a garage to do the work. Our trucks are on an operators licence and are all inspected by VOSA throughout the year, not just MOT'd. Its a real pain but the onus lies with the garage and not with us. There is a most likely valve in the system playing up but I am afraid it isnt something I am familiar with.

Keep asking, you are welcome here!!

Thank you so much as ever for your thoughts. The aforementioned valve has been rebuilt and has improved things a lot but unfortunately when she was plated yesterday it was found that the rear brake master cylinder is how shall I say it, um, um, kaput. Luckily she was plated in a truck centre so I haven't had to get her recovered at great cost. However, I now need to get a brake master cylinder. Oh joy and rupture. Oh and the air assisted steering has given up entirely but it's doing wonders for my biceps and bingo wings are no worry at all!

I would be tempted to swop the air steering from a truck in a breakers yard. I do not know how much of yours is different though. The standard system isnt always brilliant!
Found a guy in Wales who said he could re condition any brake cylinder. Cant remember exactly who he was but my dad reckons it was Wrexham brake and trailer or Wrexham truck and trailer or something similar.
