May meet in the Midlands 13 th/15th May

Would anyone like to meet in the Midlands in May 2011? I have made provisional enquiries about us holding a rally in the grounds of Elvaston Castle in Derbyshire. It is a gorgeous place – have a look at the website http://www.elvastoncastle.org.uk. It is very easily accessible from the M1 and A50. The Peak District is a 45 minutes drive away. The grounds are absolutely stunning. As a family we spend many a weekend here as there is a Caravan Club site here.

I propose hiring the ‘events’ field from Friday 13 th (I know, don’t panic) to Sunday 15th May 2011. (Potentially the weekend after but I would have to make more enquiries). This is a massive field, see pictures below. Fresh water and chemical disposal is available right next to where we can park. There is no electric unfortunately but I am sure generators will be fine as we are very much out of the way from the general public.

The local village of Borrowash is a 5 minute drive / 20 minute walk from the site and has a supermarket, pharmacy and takeaways. I will be happy to take a group into Derby city on the Saturday on the bus for a bit of shopping if anyone would be interested.

There is a lovely walk to the local pub, The Harrington Arms which takes you through the park.

The charge at the moment is £4.50 per van. The price rises in April but the lady I have spoken with says it will not be more than £5.00 per van.

I think everyone could have a lovely time here including those of you with children, so please let me know if you would like to come.

Jane

Luckily the plans to turn the place into a golf club are being challenged. If anyone is interested there is a group called 'The Friends of Elvaston' who are doing a lot of campaigning to quash the hotel plans. I hope they are able to drag out their campaign for as long as possible as it will be a crime to have the place privatised. The grounds are so amazing as you will see - ghost stories for Friday night me thinks - I'll take you all to the crypt Lol. The history of the place is very romantic - have a search for Maria Foote - very enchanting.

I'm potentially interested and would be me, the missus, a four year old and a 9 month old (< those ages are today's ages, not next year's ages).

The missus loves the lakes, I love Beddies, we all love camping, so I can't see any reason why we wouldn't want to do this. We would probably need to be in a van AND a car though so the missus could go off to the lakes walking while I chase you lot round asking you all to fix bits of my van for me.

Any objections to a Suzuki Swift joining in? I can stick Bedford decals on it if it helps.

We would be interested as well as long as work permits and can get the van sorted.

Not too sure if we could park a car on the field as well. I will have to check but there is a car park right next to the field so there should be no problem.

60 odd miles from us, so might be into popping along.
We have spurs at home that weekend !!! If we're playing
to fend off relagation i'll give that a miss though.
Let you know a bit closer the date if that's ok?

Hi Scoob... Pencil Flo and I in for the weekend please?

We wont have the Beddie finished by then though, so it will have to be our 'other' motorhome if thats ok?

Look forward to it;]
