Bedouin spotted in need of some TLC...

My girlfriends dad delivered some Transit parts to a chap over near bath, and look what he found sitting in the guys garden. I don't know anything of the history, and it looks like it requires a fair bit of work.

Might be handy for spares though. It is for sale should anyone be interested, I can put you in touch with the owner - although I hasten to add the van is nothing to do with me.

I will ask the G/Fs dad to make some enqurys. I get the impression he may want to sell it as a whole, but no harm in asking.

Thanks, I hope not the whole van as the grief for a 3rd one would not be worth it, too many vehcles already including 6 motorbikes, 6 cars, 2 vans and 2 campers both cf's at the moment. Need to get some finnished and gone or broken for spares.

It is the twin brother of mine by the looks of it. same year and everything. I'd love to rescue it myself but have nowhere for it to go, and my other one takes up too much time and money as it is.

I looked at this when it was first posted and like Gethin noticed it was a J reg tax exempt and thought It would be a pity if such an early model could not be saved and put back on the road. Anyway, I have turned detective and put what I think the reg is into the DVLA site, if you save the pic and enlarge the plate the 3rd letter is obscured, but at a guess I would go for V as its not any letter with a bottom left hand corner (so to speak) such as a E, D, N etc, I know some people on here are more aware of locality registration so If anyone wants to go through the alphabet on DVLA feel free. but as a point of interest the reg number YCV 638J yields the following

Date of Liability 01 02 1988
Date of First Registration 01 07 1971
Year of Manufacture Not Available
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1975CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour BLUE
Vehicle Type Approval

Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle
6 Months Rate £112.75
12 Months Rate £205.00

Note Colour Blue also ties up with this vehicle

Note the date of liability says 01 02 1988 So it would not have (legally) been on the road since last being taxed in 1987, its also interesting that the excise duty rate for the vehicle does not reflect its 1971 exempt status. That could be due to the fact that it went off the road about a decade before tax exemption was declared by Gordon Brown, and the records have not be updated due to this.

I thought Gordon Brown was the one that put an end to the system of rolling tax exemption at 25 years within weeks of Labour coming to power?

Will make a few more enquirys this evening as to how badly he wants rid of it. I think it has been "for sale" for a while, but he isn't actively trying to sell.

if someone could rescue it that would be brilliant.

Good searching for the details. Similar DOB to my van, and same engine too!

Hi Phil - how are things?
Sorry I have not been about for a while - stupidly busy with work and no time for the van!!!

How much is this guy looking for? Very tempted - probably only good for parts though.
Cheers
Carl

Ah I'd forgotten about this Andy. I haven't spoken to the chap yet, but I can find out. Not too far from you either.

Managed to finally drive my Bedouin home to Oxford. still a long way to go, but I'm getting there - aside from a few teething problems she potters along nicely. Just need to design an engine cover now, and cosmetics aren't really my thing...
